Said Sniper after grabbing the mic off Winky D's hands. Apparently reports said not only Sniper storm was pissed off, Mavado’s manager as well.

Sniper's actions caused a rage as the crowd threw all sorts of stuff on the stage, it also caused heated debates all over the internet and street corners across Zimbabwe. Fellow musicians have reacted for example Nox in a statement said, "Big up Sniper Storm De General for a grreat performance at Aquatic Complex alongside Mavado SNIPER is ONE of the most talented and experienced dancehall artists. he started the urban grooves movement with the likes of Delani, David Chifunyise, Willom Tight Potato in the late 90s. Lest we forget the pioneers of this genre we call Urban Grooves today".

Dj Garry B also took some time to explain what really happened that night and whether Sniper was to blame, in a statement distancing himself from the situation, the DJ said, "... those 30 min MAVADO was waiting back stage to go on stage apa snier haasati awanawo mukana wekuenda on stage. Efforts werE made and please note not by me or templeman but by the organising people of the show to get the "BIGMAN' off stage to make way for a ten min perfomance by sniper but failed...thats when SNIPER decided to take matters into his own hands to go on stage and snatch dat mic. Thats what happened in my eyes back stage so please whatever your comments,Dont involve me or my crew."

However, Winky D's hypeman, producer and brother, Layaan had this to say "Seh weh u feel fi seh,wi r seh weh wi feel fi seh,riffle shot r spin lyk......ninjaz 2 da flippin world...thanx 4 di support maninja"

Mavado will be in Zim tomorrow (Jan 25) for two concerts this weekend and local dancehall vets are already reacting. Hopefully Mavado will break bread with
a few local dancehall Gods as it is becoming a tradition.

In a statement, Sniper Storm of the kubhinya fame welcomed the dancehall superstar and I quote,

"Mavado de Gully Gad touchin down tmrw. Welcome Star Bwoy. Guru entertainers Salute. If u dont gat a ticket im sure u workin on gettin one."

mess with him lol. However Winky was able to add yet another legend to his C.V. Oliver Mtukudzi and Di Bigiman collaborated on a song aimed at persuading the masses to get circumcised. The song entitled "If you know you are a champion get circumcised", was launched in Harare on Thursday night (January 19). Production of the song was made possible by Population Services International, PSI and the ministry of Health and Child Welfare through their funders.

Miss Zimdiamond took place a few nights ago in the United Kingdom and the rep issued this press release so let me quit playing with the scissors and cut the chase...

Its been a few days since we had the Grande Finale of Miss Zim Diamond 2011 and I still can not believe that it has come and is done after a whole year of plugging Miss Zim Diamond, the final took place and oh what a memorable event. I feel so humbled by all the people who came out to support us & just the great feeling of community and support that filtered through the room. It was great to feel the love and support from the audience and for that I thank you. Many have rated the show a success and I believe with out the support of the people it could never have gone as well as it did. We can only improve next year!

Today I want to really appreciate every one for taking the time out to attend and support Miss Zim Diamond 2011. Primrose Mutsigiri & Tafadzwa Musarurwa of Panache Partyz thank you for hosting the show, it definateley was not the easiest role to have on such a busy night. Urban grooves' super producer Flash Gordon is back in Zimbabwe after putting his dreams of music production on
hold like tea folks to persue higher education in Rome, Italy. Born Tendayi Mutekedza Flash studied Media and Communication at Pontificia Università Gregoriana.

On life in Italy he says: “It was difficult at first because of language since they only speak Italian here so I had to learn it fast.“Now I am very fluent. I can actually conduct lessons and write exams in Italian.”Flash Gordon was born on January 7, 1984 in Chivhu. He has four siblings, a boy and two girls. “We are a balanced family as you see.” He lived in Chivhu and attended Chivhu Primary School. He later moved to Harare where he went to Oriel Boys’ High School. “That is where my interest in music started. The whole school listened to me while I played the piano at morning assemblies."

With that talent shining for all to appreciate, Flash Gordon’s career started while serving his apprenticeship at Pastor Kasi’s Gospel train in 2003. He was to carve his niche in the music that was later to be called urban grooves when he worked on projects for raga maestro Major E and Extra Large’s Ndinoda Kushamura Newe. He has undertaken projects for Maskiri, Nuclque, Otis Ngwabi, Plaxedes Wenyika, the Ndangariro compilation and many more.“Since last year I have been playing with a rock and blues band.“I have done shows around Rome. It was a new challenge for me having been exposed to different music back home.“Because we play written music this experience has pushed me to learn how to read music.“I am coping well and its one thing I lacked as an accomplished musician as I always used my ear.“Now I can also use my eyes as in music both the eye and ear are essential in addition to a good heart.”Flash Gordon is the only non-Italian in the orchestra.“I am enjoying my time in the sun because musicians here are idols.“And I hope when I return I will use my exposure and experience to help in the growth of a music culture.”

Friday the 26th and Sartuday the 27th of August, London was taken over by one of Zimbabwe's biggest international Festivals that has been celebrated by Zimbabweans around the world for
the past decade.

Its existence came about when a group of black, white, shona, ndebele, coloured Zimbabweans met at the Monday night forum in London back in 2000. It was essentially an event to support the MDC effort. Fundraisers and campaigns ran including 48 hour winter vigils in London which meant sleeping on the cold concrete (Tough aint it) and zimfest which has grown over the years into Zimfest as it is now.

While its organisers supported the efforts of the MDC, there were never members and eventually had to separate work from the politics forever, which lead to the birth of WEZIMBABWE, a charity organisation which got its name from the belief Zimbabweans are the only people who can bring their beloved country back to its feet.

WeZimbabwe's main project is Zimfest which is all about keeping the Zimbabwean community abroad together in the hope that it translates into something which could eventually be used to help in solving the Zimbabwe Situation.

Centrepiece is music, every aspect of Zim culture is covered from Shona and Ndebele music to Hip Hop, House, Soul, Rock etc. At the London event they have a live performance setup and a dj stage. Zimfest also includes a market area where people are invited to sell Zimstuff or advertise their products. Sports covered by the event includes Rugby and Soccer.The organization also runs a scholarship fund with WOZA , supports defenders of human rights in Zimabwe, helped promote Zim Artists, fund a school project in Zimbabwe, Fund food projects and worked with Bulawayo's Catholic Women league at Ingutsheni Mental health hospital in Famona providing various other grants.WeZimbabwe is funded by its own efforts like Zimfest and hopes to increase its sources. It is currently active in UK, Zimbabwe, Australia, South Africa, Canada and the USAWeZimbabwe's Mission isTo define a new consciousness amongst Zimbabweans that defines us as Zimbabwean first and our race or tribe later. A consciousness that challenges us all to take care of our problems through our own capacity rather than asking for external help. Above all we are an organisation that seeks to unite Zimbabwe even if we don't agree on everything.

Metaphysics recently colluded with prolific rock singer/producer Tino Oac both artists belonging to the 14-member monster-popular Germany supergroup, Sons of Mannheim (Söhnemannheims), which brings together rap, rock, reggae, soul, metal and RnB artists on a joint called Going Insane.

On his last visit to Harare, the Germany-based rapper had armed himself with an HD camera and filmed and produced the pro-marijuana documentary Rolling, Smoking. In it, Metaphysics gets to the core of the issue conducting a vox pop on the streets and talking to the people about weed and what they think if it was legalised by the government.

Very little is being done to celebrate musicians of yesteryear who played a part in making Zimbabwean music what it is today and for the upkeep of
their families after they pass on. Master minded by US based Abra Simmz and produced by Jusa Dementor,
The track celebrates Chibadura’s flair for reggae music as King Shaddy displays his versatility and abilty to appeal to varying audiences. Abra Simmz informed that the track will have an accompanying video that will be shot in Zimbabwe and the UK. King Shaddy, who is set to tour the UK later this year, expressed excitement at the release of the track.

King Shaddy, a strong John Chibadura fan said little is being done to acknowledge pioneers of Zimbabwean music, describing the late Chibadura as, ‘a talented firebrand who produced soothing rhythm and conscious lyrics.’
King Shaddy encouraged other prominent musicians to celebrate artists of yesteryear so as to let the youth know about them and for their music to live on for generations to come.

“If possible, musicians of today should unite to do works that benefit the families of late musicians and make the youth conscious of music by artists who played a major role in developing Zimbabwean music,” he said.

King Shaddy informed that he intends to hold a show in Chitungwiza in memory of the late Chibadura, in conjunction with other local musicians at a venue to be advised. He noted that royalties from the track and proceeds from the show will benefit Chibadura’s family.

Born in 1957, Chibadura or “Mr Chitungwiza” as he was affectionately known, started his musical career in the late seventies with two groups, the Holy Brothers and the Mother Band. In 1982 he joined the Sungura Boys before forming his own outfit, John Chibadura and the Tembo Bothers in 1985. The group became an instant success with hit songs that include “$5000” and his first reggae song, “Zuva Rekufa Kwangu” rocking the airwaves in the late 1980s.

During his career, Chibadura successfully toured the UK three times and was invited as a guest by the then BBC Radio 1 presenter, Andrew Shaw. He breathed his last on the 4th of August in 1999 and will be remembered as “Mr Chitungwiza, the musician who truly cared for the welfare of his band members, whose music inspired and uplifted the hearts of many. Bkay and Kazz ready to cast the "African Spirit"

The dynamic award-winning R&B duo, BKay and Kazz, are back with their third album entitled African Spirit. The sibling pair
who tore their way into the limelight when winning the Live and Unsigned UK competition in 2007, has confirmed the release of their latest project that will be launched at Milton Keynes’ Groove Night Club next week (24 June 2011).

Kazz aka Farhaan Khan described their new album, African Spirit as "a positive, feel-good record.”

He said: “African Spirit symbolises growth, new beginnings and a fresh perspective for us; we feel our world and the whole world is going through this transformation as well. Our album comes out at a time where there's question marks and uncertainty all over the place. People want to be reminded that it's all going to be all right.

Earlier this year, the brothers teamed up with six other Zimbabwean artists based in the UK, New Zealand and Malaysia including African Music Award winner, Jusa Dementor, R&B diva Cynthia Mare and TK Paradza, to release an intercontinental remix of Nigerian superstar, JJC’s We Are Africans. The anthemic track embodies the meaning and significance of African unity and combines the sentiment of pride with clear messages of harmony and positivity.

Bkay said: “With the new album, we have made music that reflects our beliefs, persona and development. When you're working just because you love it, without pressure, and just expressing your feelings, emotions and having fun, you are certain to come out contented.”

Born Seiraj Khan (Bkay) and Farhaan Khan (Kazz), they picked up the guitar and the piano respectively as toddlers. In 2007 B-Kay & Kazz packed their bags and flew out to set base in the UK. They entered the national talent show Live & Unsigned UK – the second biggest competition in the UK after Simon Cowell’s X-Factor, and after auditioning with 30,000 other acts, the boys waltzed through every level to be crowned the ultimate winners of the competition.

To mark this success, the brothers recorded the hugely popular self-penned single You Know its Right as lead to the subsequent release of their international debut LP, Boomslang.

Joseph Mushyoma, the CEO of East African Promoters (EAP)has criticized a Zimbabwean Promoter Clint Robinson of C&A Entertainment, for his
false claims that Sean Kingston had cancelled his Rwandan show after the Jet Ski accident last month in Miami Beach. The EAP boss told The New Times that he was shocked after reading Clint's allegations in an article published in The Herald, a Zimbabwean newspaper, on 8 June 2011. "We have never partnered with C&A Entertainment to bring Sean in Rwanda. In fact, we even never knew Clint until I went to Zimbabwe to discuss with the singer about the offer," the infuriated Mushyoma said. He noted: "We had already talked with the singer and I was supposed to travel to the U.S for further negotiations about the concert in Rwanda. But, his management advised me to meet them in Zimbabwe where he [Sean] performed."

According to C&A Entertainment, a Zimbabwean company that brought Kingston to Harare, they had planned to host the singer in Rwanda in partnership with Rwandese promoters. "We have decided to cancel the show in Rwanda after what happened to Sean Kingston. We had wanted to take him to Rwanda in partnership with our friends there but that is no longer possible since the accident occurred last month.

"The guys from Rwanda were here in Zimbabwe when Kingston performed two concerts and they liked what they saw and for now, we can only wish Kingston a speedy recovery," Clint of C&A Entertainment said. Mushyoma, however, insisted that: "We didn't partner with C&A Entertainment whatsoever. Clint only helped me to get a visa and other logistics to the show in Zimbabwe."

"We have since talked with Sean's management, who confirmed to us that the program hasn't changed," he added. The Pop singer Sean Kingston is believed to have been discharged from the hospital last Friday.

fans was received well by audiences in the USA and Canada. The tour began soon after landing in Dallas TX on May 20 at 2 Kats Live a venue that accomodates up to 400 people was packed to capacity. Then without skipping a beat, together with Cee Jay Besa US based musician and promoter, flew into Edmonton Canada where an expectant crowd at Duggan Community hall was hyper when the star entered the venue just after midnite and sang along to all the songs in jubilation to finally witnessing the artist on stage. Toronto was next on the 22nd May Sunday as the Victoria Day holiday celebrations continued in Canada, the venue which accomodates at least 1000 people was packed in both rooms the VIP and the showroom. Again fans from all across the divide sang along to songs from Bigiman word for word. Although there was a strong Zimbabwean presence Winky D certainly gained new fans of both black and white descents as the audiences appeared to be mixed races. The final showdown was in Cincinnati Ohio where Winky D was the highlight of the Zim Expo Business Exportium which is held annually in USA, Canada and UK. Although the show began late due to sound and technical issues, the star was unfazed and went on to deliver a spectacular set on stage to a very appreciative and responsive audience. Kuda Mhembe a fan in Toronto said " we are the fans that you saw in the front of the stage singing to all Winky D songs, we had a great time guys, keep it up. A Canadian sound engineer called Chris from On The Rox Concert Hall stated, "I have done sound for Beenie Man, Tony Matterhorn, Mary J Blige and Lil Wayne , Even though i dont understand some of the words, i can tell you that Winky D rates highly as an international artist of the highest calibre and standards to match or better most the artists ive worked with". Winky D arrived home in Zimbabwe safely on June 1st after the tour and stated emphatically through his facebook page "di tour was ninjaful,yard mi deh finally.WAGWAN MANINJA". In addition to this, Cynthia committed to honing her craft as a live performer and graced many a main stage both in the UK and in Zimbabwe. Last year she was a highlight at the Ndoro Childrens Charity - Zimbabwe Pearl Ball, where she shared stage with Zimbabwean Dancehall Ambassador Jusa Dementor. Other performers on the night included the legendary Oliver Mtukudzi and Ambuya Stella Chiweshe, the chart topping indie afro-punk band - The Noisettes (led by zimbabwean Shingai Shoniwa) and UK soul heart-throb McLean. However, one of her own favourite moments was performing to an audience of 50,000 people warming up the crowd at the Akon and Sean Paul show in Harare with her band and four backing dancers.

With the full backing of the ABRA tribe, 'Catch Me When I Fall' - has sent waves across Southern Africa since its release late last year. The video, directed by John Smarts (African Air Horn Dance) is currently on rotation on African TV including the South African music Channel O. The multi-talented singer/songwriter can also be seen presenting her Top 10 favourite videos of all time. Since the track was featured in Big Brother Africa 2010, it has driven African audiences to find out more about her and indeed the young lady was invited to attend the MTV MAMA Awards last year in Lagos Nigeria. She quickly connected with the heartbeat of the Nigerian urban music scene and hit the studio with various Nigerian and South African artists. Most importantly though - the remix of Catch Me When I Fall, produced by Dreadlox Holmes and featuring Nigeria’s biggest dancehall artist General Pype was born. You prolly wondering who is Mariachi & Alkamai right now but relax and take notes whilst I chop it up with them on this exclusive

Who is Mariachi & Alkamai and what does the name mean

Mariachi was born David Chitate. I adopted the name from the movie ‘Desperado’. I figured if I could flow the way he strummed that guitar, and lay bars down that move people the way he moved the audience with his music; I’d be on the right track.

Alkamai was born Cliff Makaza. The name is derived from the ancient science of turning ant metal to gold, and my take on it is every bar I drop is golden! I jus played around with the spelling and Alkamai was born.

Tell us more about this whole Purple Blazer movement, is the album out yet?

M: Purple Blazer is a collabo album that Alkamai & I did which is a wake up call to the game locally, regionally, internationally. We got in the studio and said to each other, whatever we produce here has to compete with international releases, and that’s the fundamental that guided our beat selection, flows and the project as a whole.

A: At the end of the day, the finished product speaks for itself and that’s not us being cocky or anything... it’s just us believing in our product and believing we achieved what we set out to do!
The album is out on limited release at the moment as we work towards a sick official launch come summer time. So if you’re a Die-Hard fan U can cop yourself a copy if you talk to us nicely!

Who did you work with on the project from producers to artistes?

M: We worked with a total of 7 producers on ‘Purple Blazer’… (Tracks in brackets)

What inspired purple blazer?

A: Well the name on the face of it, is a tribute to our alumni… Churchill High School. So its basically a shoutout to all the Bulldogs out there… holla at yo boys!

M: That was initially how it came about. But as I got to thinking during our creative process, we wanted our project to be the dopest out there… of the highest level. And the colour that best represents the highest level is purple which signifies royalty. The blazer is given to sportsmen in sports like golf as a symbol of the highest achievement… hence, ‘Purple Blazer’, the hottest hihp hop album out right now!

What motivates Mariachi/Alkamai?

M: The belief that the talent I’ve been given has barely reached its potential and that keeps me going.

A: Music is in my blood… I mean im a qualified Accountant and all, but music and specifically Hip Hop, is my passion.

I've heard some peeps make Jay Z reference to your flow, how do feel about that and and what u gotta say?

Well the problem is people don’t think anything original can come outta Africa/Zim, so they always make comparisons… He sounds like so and so, he dresses like such and such. I admit there may be sum tonal similarities in our voices but Im NOT JAY, NOT tryna be him either… I AM YACHI! Anyone who’s listened to my music will tell you that the content, flow and everything about my music is ALL ME!

At the end of the day, like Jay says tho: ‘Do you dudes listen to music or do you jus skim thru it?’

Did you open up for Sean Kingston and if so how did it go down?

M: The Sean Kingston performance did not happen. We got there on time, but they wouldn’t let us do soundcheck… some other cats were actually there after us and they did theirs! Then come showtime, they call us and tell us to open the show… without having done soundcheck and to an empty ground. That shit don’t fly! So basically we politely declined.

A: I mean they had dancers and people singing covers and ish… typical opening acts. We were there with original, quality material, but they wanted the Blazer Boys to take a bullet, and we Matrix’d our way out of it!

Sean Kingston received a lot of back lash from the media and fans, what really happened at the showgrounds

M: There’s not much we can say that wasn’t already covered in the media to be honest. He was lip-syncin and people caught on, and his whole ‘I can DJ’ routine didn’t go down well either! Other than that, I think the other major problem was people are so used to Tuku, ChesoPower etc being on stage for 2-3hrs, but international acts have a standard 90mins performance clause which I think the public is never told about!

How do you feel about international artistes coming to Zimbabwe?

A: I welcome international acts… but only if it’s done right. You have situations here where local acts are called up to open for international guys simply cos they have a following, but most times their music isn’t relevant to the show as a whole. I mean how are you gonna bring Mai Charamba to a T.O.K show for example?

M: To add to what Alka’s saying, how can you possibly have local artists getting an opportunity to collaborate with International acts if the music is incompatible? Promoters are focusing on the dollars… maximizing profits, and treat local acts like trash. They don’t wanna pay, they don’t even give you refreshments or accreditation for After Parties etc… NAC or ZIMURA or some1 needs to look into that.

As an artist what can u say about local music in terms of quality and exposure?

M: The quality is definitely on the up-and-up… Just listen to Purple Blazer and you’ll know what I mean!

A: Arrogance aside, there’s a lot of quality in terms of production etc, but ther’s still a huge gap in-terms of exposure or rather access to platforms that can get you the exposure. Videos are expensive, Internet connectivity is not cheap or fast, and this is in an age where almost every aspect of music has gone digital?! WTF?!

Promoter of the Zarfest tour featuring Ciara, Timbaland, Fat Joe, Lil Kim and DJ Scratch, , who is also owner of one of South Africa’s leading night
spots, Zar Lounge, said he would soon open a club under the Zar franchise in Zimbabwe.
“Zimbabwe has become my second home and South Africa needs to celebrate this country more than any other country. This was our home during the liberation struggle and they contributed so much to the liberation of South Africa,” said Kunene.

He added that as a way of giving back to Zimbabweans, he was going to open a club similar to the ones he owns in South Africa.

“Zar is here to stay and we are going to have a Zar in Zimbabwe. Every concert we will host in South Africa, we will bring it down to Zimbabwe as this is my second home,” said Kunene.

Kunene, who also attended the Akon and Sean Paul concert which was held in Harare last year, admitted that he was impressed with the turnout at the show.

He added that he would ensure that Zarfest leaves lasting impressions in the country.

“I give people maximum effort in whatever I do. Zimbabweans should gear up for a memorable show,” said Kunene.

One of the organisers from South Africa explained that tickets to the Zarfest concert were highly priced because of the quality of the event.

“If you buy a Corolla, you know what to expect from it but if you buy a Mercedes Benz, you also know the value in it. So that is the case with our pricing of the Zarfest (ANews Headlines)

According to 50 Cent's website (Thisis50.com), Lil Kim made quite a splash in Zimbabwe as she took the stage at the inaugural Zarfest in the capital

and launching their online product with exclusive perfomances by Timbaland, Lil Kim and Fat Joe on May 27 at Borrowdale Race Course in Harare.

King of Africa?
In 2009 the Terror Squad leader Fat Joe upped his royalty status from "Prince" to "King of Africa" with the release of footage of him in Angola. While proclaiming his impact on the country, Joey Crack also indirectly joked about rap rival 50 Cent who had his jewelery stolen from him at a concert in 2008.
"Every week I'm in Africa," Joe said in a video. "I'ma start showing you sh*t you ain't ever seen in your life. All different parts of Africa. I done been to everywhere...Ghana, I done did Ghana. I live in Angola. So, you know, it's not dangerous like people say. I know people got robbed over there. I got footage of me in the barber shop, hanging in the hood, hanging out with everybody on the corner, having a great time. It's beautiful in Angola...So you know, King of Afirca man. Stay tuned, you gonna find out a lot about Africa real soon." (World Star Hip Hop)

Fif's incident took place while performing in Angola around May 2008.
50 Cent had his necklace stolen by a fan during a concert in Angola. The incident, which took place as the rapper was onstage, was captured on video by a fan. In the video, the music stops as the person grabs the necklace and climbs back into the crowd. Responding to the incident on his website, 50 said security at the concert had been "limited" and "fans were able to interact with the group onstage". Contrary to the fans video, the rapper claims his own footage of the incident shows he "pushed him off the stage and jumped into the crowd and then all hell broke loose." (Gigwise)

The artistes not yet cleared by the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe?
"They are yet to be cleared, although the promoters of the show have since submitted their papers to us for clearance of live performances by these artistes. "In the case of a foreign promoter who wants to do business in Zimbabwe, they should strike a partnership with a local promoter here," said Donald Chidoori, an official from the NACZ. It is, however, the performance by these artistes on the same show that is likely to leave lasting impressions considering that it will be a package by different artistes whose styles are unique. Young Talented Zimbabweans across the globe like this young man right here who goes by the name THAI are finally claiming their spot on the international music scene. Tawanda THAI Mujaji (born 24th March) is a self-taught artist, singer-songwriter, producer, rapper, choreographer and dancer
originally from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe grew up in Harare and later moved to South Africa in 2004 to further his education.

In 2006 he matriculated and in 2010 he successfully graduated from the Vega Institute of Branding Innovation with a degree in Brand Communication majoring in Art Direction and in 2011 went on to complete his Honours in Creative Brand Management and his since branched off into a career in music.

Thai has been in the entertainment industry for the past 9 years, 5 of which were as a professional dancer and lead member/choreographer for one of the biggest dance crews in Southern Africa to date, Clinch Crew. As part of Clinch Crew, he has had the opportunity and privilege of sharing the stage with some of the biggest International acts (Sean Paul, Pharrell Williams and Snoop Dogg) and more including the likes of Bow Wow and Rick Ross. Locally he has shared the stage with the likes of Danny K., HHP, Skwatta Kamp and Slikour to name a few, also performing for crowds of upwards of +50 000 people in attendance. As part of Clinch Crew, he contributed great amounts of time and effort to develop, promote and educate youth within the local dancing community, to also contributing to the development of the biggest dance competition in the southern hemisphere with the last event the Masters Of Rhythm Dance Competition, drew a crowd of +9000 youth.

As a solo performer, he has competed and won the honour of representing his continent overseas at the World Hip Hop Dance Championships, held in the United States. He is currently rated as one the best Poppers in Southern Africa and he has had offers to compete on a global scale at the World Dance Circuit Championships held Germany and Poland. Unfortunately, due to having to complete his Bachelor of the Arts Honors in Brand Innovation and Communication Management, he has opted not to compete as a combined measure to also focus more on his own projects.

Besides working to graduate and attain his degree, he has been working furiously at mastering his passion for music, delving into areas such as singing, song writing, producing and rapping. He draws inspiration from music icons such as Michael Jackson and Usher to Quincy Jones, Danjahandz, Timbaland, Pharrell Williams, Bassment Jaxx, Daft Punk, Will.I.AM, Ryan Leslie, Kanye West and T-Pain and famed composers the likes of Randy Newman and Hans Zimmer to name a few. He recently succeeded in producing, along with Mason Black, two records on the latest album for South African Music Award and MTV Africa Music Award nominee, Zuluboy.

Getting the local music business right: The Story of Willowmead Productions

There is so much music talent in Zimbabwe but unfortunately, musicians fail to get their music out there because they cannot handle their business transactions right. Matter of fact, there isn't much business going on in the local music industry and by that I mean proper artist management and proper record deals. A few young artists like Winky D has shown the importance and advantages of having a manager handling an artist's business.

A few musician management and agents of note include Black Lab Records (Winky D), Ndeipi Global PR (Jusa Dementor, Cynthia Mare and Carl Joshua Ncube) and now Willowmead Productions. I found out about Willowmead recently and after looking into the projects and work they have managed to accomplish I m convinced these young Zimbos are moving in the right direction, changing the business side of the local music scene. Willowmead's first project was to form Zimbabwe’s first Super Group. This Super Group was hand selected by Munya and Lantei after some intense A & R and listening sessions. Only selecting the cream of the crop Munya and Lantei selected
9 (nine) artists and brought them together to create two undoubtedly hot tracks “Fire” and “Show Me What You’re Workin’ With”. Just as the name suggests “Fire” is about reigniting the flame that music used to stir inside the spirit of listener. It is about going hard and giving your all in any situation. With a hard hitting beat “Fire” has a fusion of different genres such as RnB, dancehall, rap, hip-hop to give it a unique sound and appeal to the masses. “Show Me What You’re Working With” is the second track created by the Super Group. It is a slower, more relaxed RnB track. With its chilled tempo and catchy chorus this track is sure to be a hit with the ladies. It creatively tells the story of a young, beautiful woman being pursued by a gentleman.

Mandi “Juan Take” Mukaro
Mandi Francis Mukaro was born in Zimbabwe, Harare. Mandi started rapping in 2006 free styling on instrumentals and in ciphers as a pass time with friends and other rappers. His love for music is inspired by a host of artists as well as music he would listen to as a child which his father would play from classical RnB music, to jazz to rumba. More modern influences include artists such as, Juelz Santana & The Diplomats, Drake, Lil Wayne, Kanye, Fat Joe and Jay-Z which lead to his style of rap containing a similarity with the mogul's flows and techniques.

In his earliest appearances, Juan's style was less polished; he had a propensity for rhyming without changing his flow, which gradually lessened over time. Having moved from Zimbabwe to Australia and now in South Africa, Juan Take is currently living in South Africa and has become more known for his use of flow, creativity, metaphors and similes, as well as being a rapper to stress the ordeals of the everyday urban life.

Juan Take, who's name is a generic version of an earlier nickname One Take, taken from his ability to consistently freestyle verses in one take reciting them in his head a style pioneered by Jay-Z and the Notorious B.I.G. Juan is also a song writer and works with artists as well as produces some of his own music.

Mandi also has an independent record label called Gwop Boys Entertainment. and refers to the collective of friends he works with as the Gwop Boys. The Gwop Boys consists of Ezra - The Gobbla, Blaze Money, Keezy - Capital K, Letha, and many more. The whole crew stems from Harare and many of them have ventured off into their own realm of music but still have that affiliation.
Nadia “Miss Nakai” Kandava
The first completely commercial female rapper to hit the scene, with her playful self seen in her lyrics you can’t help but love her Glam Swag. Her love for hip-hop started when she was 16 where she started recording in her garage without a mic and even then people could notice her talent, even on really bad quality recordings. She then joined forces with her childhood friend Lalla a songstress and formed the duo group called KaiRayne which was a mix of RnB and hip-hop. Gwop Boys entertainment heard her music and loved her swag therefore she became the first lady of Gwop Boys.
Now at 20 she is currently working on her mixtape that already is getting hype before it’s even completed. He first single solo is called “Gotta have it” produced by Yungshine where she features Juan take who is one of the founders of Gwop Boys Entertainment and the person that discovered her. Here she linked up with established producers such as the Gobbla and Blazemoney. With her Zimbabwean origins from Chinhoyi, her sound is already on an international level and when she soon becomes well known in the African market it only a matter of time till she breaks through internationally. She’s not only a cute face but a driven hard worker and will not settle for anything less than the best! Watch out for Miss Nakai! And her rise to fame!
Melvin “Anonymous” Biza
This multi talented young man emerges from the soils of Zimbabwe. “A move to SA at the age of eleven made it difficult for him to claim any kind of identity,” he says. “I struggled because I moved from Zim too early to completely grasp my own culture and arrived in SA too late to entirely learn the cultures here from the ground up”; hence “Anonymous”…
Born into a house full of vinyls & cassettes, music has always been an integral part of his life. Having a father who was a club Dj & radio personality also laid a firm foundation for his understanding & appreciation of music on a whole scale.
Anonymous has since channeled this understanding of what has become his passion, and decoded it in the form of lyrics. With influences from every genre of music imaginable; his sound was bound to be an eclectic and immediately captivating one…

Tapiwa “ANDRE” Chinyanda
Andre is a Zimbabwean RnB artist known for his unique vocal tone, sometimes identified as sounding like international singer Lloyd for the range he likes to sing in. He began singing in primary school and after winning a school singing competition he won free vocal training lessons. He continued to attend even up until he was 16 years old, but had made no real career moves, though he did still sing at recitals and as a soloist in the choir.

Early years (Two way)
The first career move he made was after meeting his producer and friend Tags after high school, the two knew each other from before, but Tags only began producing at 17 years old but only felt his skills were polished enough two years later in 2004 at 19 years, Andre was 20 years old at that point. They got together and formed a group, Two way, under this name they released 1 gospel album, titled "Volume Two" this album was not released for commercial sale but gained them some acclaim and recognition in their hometown Harare,

2006 to present
Andre went on to work on his first solo album titled "Unbelievable" under the artist name Tapi (from his first name). Although this album was meant for commercial release it was released as a mixtape album. At the same time he and producer Tags went on to start Showtime Records. In 2007 he went on to work on his third studio titled, "Because i can", meant for commercial release in South Africa on the 14th of February. The album has been pushed forward till Later on 2008, possibly because of name changes and admistrative issues in Andre's label, Showtime records.

Young Don and Rudeboi-T make up an electric and vibrant Duo under their self initiated movement called G.P.B (Get Paper Boyz) from Zimbabwe. With their ability to draw inspiration from different aspects of their environment, they create music that is diverse and different. Never being limited this duo can be found on a number of genres with a distinct aspect of dancehall & hip hop. They are not bound nor limited to a specific type of music; hence they merge different musical interests to come up with beautiful music. Keith “Kapital K” Guza Jr
Born in Zimbabwe, Keith started rapping at the tender age of nine after being inspired by international rap artists Bow Wow. In 2002 he released his debut album titled “Let’s Party”. He has worked with artists from all over the continent. His latest mixtape “Fresh Out The Oven” has been released and is currently available online.

Local Stand up Comedian to begin his first ever world Tour?

Zimbabwe’s most exciting new find in stand up comedy will begin his first ever world tour “Carl Joshua Ncube’s BIG ANNOUNCEMENT on May 12 2011.

Hot on the heels of a sold out National tour, this ground-breaking, hugely anticipated first-of-its-kind journey, will see the
Bulawayo born son take Brand Zimbabwe through to 37 different cities around the world. Kick-starting in the city of his birth on May 12, he returns to Harare with a final show on August 26. In between, a host of special events are scheduled for Botswana, Zambia, Nigeria, UK, France, Australia, China and the United States to name but a few.

“I literally can’t wait! To be in the position of being able to share parts of Zim culture through comedy is a blessing to me. There is an exciting scene of talented young people currently giving a different perspective of this country and I am honoured to be a part of it.”

Indeed US News Agency - CNN came across Ncube, when footage of his popular shows were posted onto YouTube via his website www.carljoshuancube.com. He was subsequently invited to South Africa to film for the popular African Voices segment, a weekly show that highlights Africa’s most engaging personalities. The clip is due to air during the tour.

Behind the comedy, Ncube continues to push boundaries. In 2002, he produced Zimbabwe’s first reality based talent search competition. The 19 episodes were aired on ZBC. Fast forward to present day and Ncube is awarded with being the first person to produce live graphics in the country (Zimbabwe Music Awards). He also produced and directed the first ever 2D animation cartoon – Nyaminyami – unveiled at the Zimbabwe International Film Festival, and the National Arts Merits Awards, which set him up as one of the country’s most sought after Live television producers.

In addition to attracting media interest, Ncube is a firm favourite amongst the Zimbabwean arts scene both at home and abroad. The likes of Big Brother Africa favourite Munya, mbria princess Chiwoniso, R&B duo Bkay & Kazz, afro-jazz artist Victor Kunonga, Australian based model – Teurai Chanakira and award-winning dancehall ambassador Jusa Dementor have all taken to social networking sites to confirm their support. UK based singer/songwriter – Cynthia Mare told African magazine - FAB (fabulous.african.black) in a recent interview, “I’ve been following Carl on twitter/facebook and I’m so proud of his efforts in putting Zimbabwe on the map. I can’t wait for the show to come to London”.

When Buffalo Soulja talks about shooting a music video then you know he is talking about class. The only Zimbabwean Musician in possesion of a Channel O Music Award and is one of
the few young Zimbabweans who really took up music as a career. In a statement Big Buffs said,

Born Thabani Ndlovu five months after the independence of Zimbabwe, Buffalo Soulja is the third born in a family of four children. He claims to owe his stardom from his father, a jazz artist
and saxophonist who worked with the famous Chimurenga maestro, Thomas Mapfumo in the late 70s and early 80s. Buffalo Souljah stomped into music at an early age and is said to have composed his first song “Zuva Randisingakanganwe” [The Day I Will Never Forget] at the tender age of eight.

Buffalo left Zimbabwe for South Africa in 1999 and worked with a number of African artists, featuring on their albums. Artists like Kweku aka Instinct from Ghana, Street Disciples of the chosen ones fame to name a few, the Souljah also produced an Afro Jazz Album called Indlovu Yangena [Enter the Elephant].

He is currently working with Hot Wax Productions, a company owned by the internationally known and self proclaimed Africa's number one Dj Waxxy and Released his highly anticipated Movement Album, with a single that has been doing damage to the airwaves featuring Dem crack Boyz called Izandla Phezulu(Hands Up), a song about hope and celebration.

Winky D to tour USA, Canada and Australia?

Winky D will kick off the USA tour by hitting Dallas, Texas on the 20th of May 2011 with Cee Jay Besa. In a phonecall conversation with Greedysouth Winky D's management confirmed the
tour and added Cincinati, Ohio and Canada on the list.
"Winky D's international tour will kick off in Australia then Canada and USA. I am not sure about the exact states and towns yet but the Tour is on

Winky D who is currently in Bulawayo for the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair will also make a stop at Hustlers night Club for a showdown with fellow Urban groovers like Exque.

I recently attended an Art Exhibition at Central St Martins Foundation Exhibition in London, which had many promising works of art on show such as Installations, Films, Textiles, Photography, Paintings, Jewelry and Ceramics. A piece called Elevation by the extraordinary talented Zimbabwean Artist Dana Whabira stood out from the rich art work displayed at CSM.

Elevation is inspired by Mr Dhara a homeless man who struggled for months to build a home for
his family in Zimbabwe unknowingly using sub standard bricks which dissolved during the rainy season leaving just a honeycomb structure in the middle of the field. Dana Whabira conceptualized the man's hopes and despair in this structure.

The Artist explained that Elevation is " the unrealised dream of building our perfect world, faced by the forces of man and nature. The story behind Elevation is culturally universal by just looking at pictures showing the devastation of Hurricane Katrina or the recent earthquake in Japan. Standing in front of this piece of art I experienced a catharsis and understood how the narrative represented loss and unrealised dreams of the common man. Elevation captured the essence of humanities' blood, sweat, tears, joy and despair in the pursuit of a perfect world and how the forces of nature sometimes collaborate against man

Big Brother Ampified: Wendall a.k.a Nibbles

Wendall is a pilot from Harare. His favourite place in Zimbabwe is Kariba because he loves fishing and being in the sun with his friends. He says that the best thing about his country is

“absolutely everything – the people, how beautiful our country is and how much it has to offer the world”.

The best advice he ever received was “live each day as if it were your last” from his mother, along with “be grateful for everything and every opportunity you get in your life”. His greatest achievement is qualifying for his commercial pilot’s license and he lists his role model as US President Barack Obama.

Wendall entered Big Brother Amplified for the challenge and to represent his country. He promises viewers that he will take excitement and suspense to another level and should he win, he will invest his prize money into something he enjoys doing and start a business. His favourite previous Big Brother contestant is Munya because of the way he represented Zimbabwe “and he came so close to winning”.

To relax, Wendall goes to gym or socializes with his friends. His personal motto is “you win some, you lose some” and while he jokes that while he doesn’t have any specific special talents, “you never know what might come out on a crazy night in the house!”

Prince Edward School this Saturday 07 May to mix and mingle with his fans and give away at least 100 CDs of Legacy his last offering released on the 4th of December 2010. With him will be Tehn Diamond and Rayhaan Raydizz

It’s a trend that began with Run DMC and Aerosmith dropping the breakthrough Walk this Way, before Public Enemy and Anthrax brought us Bring the Noize. Since then Rap/Rock cross-overs
have included Jay-Z and Linkin Park’s 2004 Collision Course, Lil’ Wayne’s Rebirth and now Zimbabwean legend Metaphysics has colluded with prolific rock singer/producer Tino Oac on the joint Going Insane.

Genre-bending is always a challenge, but for Metaphysics and Tino Oac it’s daily bread. The duo belong to the 14-member monster-popular Germany supergroup, Sons of Mannheim (Söhnemannheims), which brings together rap, rock, reggae, soul, metal and RnB artists. Still, the task of fusing is ever daunting as Weezy would have learnt with his 2010 experiment Rebirth.

And where Weezy erred by enlisting an all Hip-Hop line up of producers for a Rock record, Meta and Tino Oac have remained on home ground and made use the season Rock crafts-men to give this joint that organic sound.

Going Insane embodies a seething slice of electronica that hems the Rock guitar riffs to the drumline that trails Meta’s flow.

The music was co-written by Axe Trax a musician and producer with many accolades of his own, along with Metaphysics who wrote the lyrics for the song and insured that the production meets the label deadline. Going Insane is a single that touches on the current global situation and how a simple thing such as watching the news is enough to drive someone crazy these days. People call him Winky D but I prefer calling him Wallas and can you Imagine I missed Wallace's HIFA performance because I had this crazy hangover? Last night was too hectic dougies, didnt even sleep at home! but a few eye witnesses confirmed the "Poor people's devotee" committed a
murder. The HIFA performance was one of the first shows were Wallas performed with a live band dubbed the "Vigilance Band" yesayah!! In a statement Winky told Greedysouth this,

Indian Film Maker Makes Waves Internationally with his Film on President Mugabe

A path-breaking film by a young Indian filmmaker on President Robert Mugabe has been featured as one of the Hot Picks of 2011 at Cannes (France), in the Factual Entertainment Section. Titled ‘Mugabe’s Zimbabwe’, the film has been signed up for worldwide commercial distribution by TVF International.

The 54’ minute documentary was shot on location in Zimbabwe, England, Scotland and India. Made in English, the motion picture will now be adapted in various languages across the world and be featured on multiple media platforms.

Commenting on the film, the Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Barry Baerak said
"the film is "a primer to the situation, something of value especially to those not yet familiar with Zimbabwe and its recent history".

Mugabe’s Zimbabwe’ is a thoroughly researched film, with unprecedented access to Zimbabwe’s Deputy Prime Minister, Vice Presidents, Governor of Reserve Bank, Former Arch Bishop of Bulawayo and UK’s Former Secretary of State for International Development etc. Parts of the documentary were shot undercover and the crew included people from nine different nationalities.

Commenting on taking up the film for world wide distribution, Leila Monks Director, TVF International said that "TVF International are really pleased to be working with Dolsun Media distributing their film "Mugabe's Zimbabwe". As dictatorialism pervades the news, the world watches democracy fight against its enemies so this film featuring exclusive interviews and the inside track on the current situation in Zimbabwe has never been more topical."

An alumnus of the London School of Economics, Shrenik is a filmmaker by choice. His work was featured in the media including BBC, NDTV, Sify and UNEP - to name a few. Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government in the USA and the London School of Economics in the UK have premiered his previous work.

Based in Hyderabad, Shrenik is currently the Chief Executive and Creative Director of Dolsun Media and 7MB (7 Media Broadcasting Pvt Ltd) that specialise in Factual Entertainment content, Ad-films, commercials and Television Production. Previously, he was Vice-President of a Television Network in India.

Hip Hop super producer Timbaland to visit Zimbabwe?

The multi-award winning super-producer and ground-breaking solo artist, Timbaland, has been in talks with ZAR Empire to do a four show tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe, starting at the end of
May. He’s agreed to spend a week in Mzansi, and will celebrate ZAR’s birthday.

So, instead of the usual whirlwind tour, the man The New Yorker has described as the most important producer of the past decade, will be spending time with the ZAR family to get to know the country and its people and rock us all in Johannesburg, Durban, Nelspruit and Harare.
